I had the opportunity to go out for another socially distant stargazing party with my new astronomy friends from work. After our last session, both of them went out and bought 8" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescopes like mine. This time, I wanted to try to get a good photo of Mars, since it is nearing opposition, and is quite large in the sky.

While I have photographed Mars before, I have never been able to get a decent shot through a telescope. This time, I invested in a new gadget that would let me attach my camera to a Barlow (that I already owned) to increase the effective magnification.

I'm quite happy with the result! Mars will hit opposition on October 13th, so around then would be the absolute best time to get a photo, for those of you who wish to try.

Technical Details: This photo was processed from a video taken with my 5D Mark II + Meade LX90 at 4000mm, f/20 (I didn't write down what ISO or shutter speeds I was using).
