It has already been almost five years since we signed up with Bullfrog Power to power our home using green electricity. For an extra few cents per kilowatt hour, we can say that all of the electricity we use at our house comes from either wind generators or low impact hydroelectric generators, neither of which pollute the atmosphere with large quantities of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases.

Now, Bullfrog Power has started offering green natural gas as well. For a few extra cents per cubic metre, we can now say that all of the natural gas we use at our house has been captured from landfill sites, rather than mined from the ground. This means that there is no net increase in atmospheric carbon dioxide when it is burned, since the carbon dioxide came from the atmosphere to begin with, and would have escaped back into it anyway if it wasn't captured.

These few extra cents here and there do add up over the course of a year, and one may argue whether it is worth it, but I personally think it is a neat idea and I'm happy to support green power initiatives in Canada.

Also, this picture of the week represents the first picture I have taken with my new lens that Angela bought me for our anniversary! It is my first "L" lens, and it replaces my 10-22mm wide angle lens that I had to sell after Angela bought me my 5D Mark II. I'm looking forward to being able to take wide angle shots once again!

Technical details: This photo was taken with my 5D Mark II + EF 17-40 L at 17mm, ISO 100, f/4 for 1/125th of a second.
