Aila graduated from the "toddler" room to the "junior preschool" room at daycare, and we were able to move her to a daycare closer to where we work at the same time. The new daycare asked for a recent family photo to put up on their wall, and we realized that we haven't done a family photo in a while. So I set up the tripod on the back deck and used the ten second timer on the camera to take this photo!

So far Aila likes her new daycare, and she seems to be coping well even though she is one of the youngest in the class again. She blew her new teacher's mind yesterday when they sat down to draw a picture. Aila said: "I want to write my name. Aila. A, I, L, A." When we came to pick her up that evening her teacher said: "She is so far ahead of everyone else!"

(Just to be clear: Childhood is not a race. Your mileage may vary. Do not try this at home. Etc. Seriously though, Aila has a vague idea of what letters are, and can identify less than a handful of them reliably. Her name only has four letters and I usually spell it out for her whenever we see it printed somewhere, which is all the time because we have labels on everything. Don't worry... I am not forcing my child to learn how to spell at less than 2.5 years old. She does pick things up rather quickly though on her own.)

Technical Details: This photo was taken with my Canon 5D Mark II + Tamron 28-75 at 50mm, f/8 for 1/125th of a second (on a tripod using the timer).

I hear the Perimeter Institute is looking for a simpler explanation than the
Standard Model in order to explain physical phenomenon. Maybe Aila can come up
with some ideas?

She hasn't quite got the hang of special relativity yet, and I was saving
quantum field theory for later, but I will run it by her during playtime
tomorrow.

Well my kid can, uh, rapid-kill 100 aliens in a row on Halo, so, uh, there.
Seriously though, you guys look great! Hope to visit soon before she graduates
