This weekend we drove to Pickering to watch Kevin play in the finals for his soccer league. It has been interesting to watch the evolution of Kevin's soccer involvment from 2008 to 2009 to now.

We missed the first match of the day, which Kevin's team unfortunately lost. However, we arrived in time to catch Kevin's team playing their last game to secure the third place trophy.

The game was very interesting. The skill level of everyone involved is obviously much better than it was a few years ago. Kevin (who is the team captain) was in the net for the first half, during which his team scored a goal and the opposing team didn't. In the second half Kevin played forward and scored a goal seemingly within the first minute of him being on the field. Although the other team tried to shrug it off, I think it demoralized them. Kevin's team ended up winning 5-1 to get the third place in the tournament.

Shooting sports is always a fun challenge. This time I wanted to make sure there was no motion blur in my images so I cranked the ISO up and opened the aperture as far as I could. However, I didn't really move from my spot on the sideline at midfield, so I couldn't get any really good action shots near the net. Next time maybe I will try to move around more, but since it was rainy I didn't want to leave the shelter of my umbrella.

Technical Details: This photo was taken with my Canon 5D Mark II + EF 70-300 IS at 300mm, ISO 3200, f/5.6 for 1/1600th of a second.
