With the nice weather we've been having lately, it seemed like a good time to put up our Christmas lights. It was fun figuring out what we were going to do with the new house. We decided to do a simple red and green alternating pattern along the eavestroughs at the front of the house. This had the added benefit that it minimized the number of light bulbs we had to buy... about a dozen green and half a dozen red bulbs.
We also splurged and bought two strands of white LED lights to put around the big tree in our front yard (not pictured). Maybe next week's photo will feature our natural Christmas tree!
Technical details: This photo was taken with my 5D Mark II + Tamron 28-75 at 28mm, ISO 100, f/7.1 for 30 seconds.
That's a nice picture! I like the sky behind the house too.-- Mum at 8:20pm, Tuesday November 23, 2010 EST
Nice lights! Why are you getting reflections above and below? Did you take the photo through the windshield maybe?-- Dad at 9:22pm, Tuesday November 23, 2010 EST
Very good question. I didn't have anything in front of my lens. I didn't even have a filter on. It appears to be some lens flare. I bought the lens based on several reviews I read, all of which claimed that flare was well controlled... although I have since read some complaints about shooting bright light sources in directly the centre of the frame. This seems to match those complaints, since the flare is only apparent in the centre of the frame. When I have some time, maybe I will do some comparison photos between this lens and some of my other lenses to see if it is going to cause me problems in the future.-- Michael at 11:07pm, Tuesday November 23, 2010 EST
