Angela and I have been keeping a lookout for our "dream home". This weekend we stumbled on a listing in Ayr that looked interesting, so we called our agent to go have a look. It turned out to be a large 1876 estate home that has been in the same family since it was built! This is the first time that the house has been offered for sale outside of the family, so it was very interesting to see.

The house is at 128 Piper St, and is mentioned on the Historic Ayr Walking Tour. Out of all the houses we have seen so far, this one has sparked the most discussion between Angela and myself. On the one hand, who could pass up such a large lot, with such an historic house, in such a nice town setting. On the other hand, the layout of the house is a little awkward, with two kitchens, and a kind of weird duality between the victorian main floor and the modernized second floor.

Also complicating matters is that it is near the top of our price range, but it still seems like a good deal. We would have to move to Ayr, which is pretty far away from everything, but at least it still has its small town charm. The house also backs onto a river, which is awesome, but there is a cliff so it's not like you can easily throw a canoe in the water or anything. Yet, it's such a huge property... there is so much that could be done. It's also a huge house, so there is a lot to maintain.

I could probably go on for hours (and we have!), but suffice it to say that this house is a conundrum. On Friday they dropped the price down by $40,000 and they held an open house on Sunday, so I think they are hoping to sell quickly at this point. Maybe someone will snap it up. If it's still on the market a week from now, maybe we will take another look at it. Who knows.

The search continues...

And it is the same numerological number as your current house.
You'd think it
would be easy to spot on Google maps satellite, but I think Google put their
own roof on the house.

If you switch to satellite view on the map right below the photo and zoom in
all the way, the marker is at the exact spot that I took the photo. Believe it
or not, that is the roof of the house!	The property goes all the way back to
the river.
