On our trip to Prince Edward County, we decided to go on an "easy" walk at Sandbanks Provincial Park. The Dunes Trail is a 2.5 km loop through the dunes.
When we got there, we almost immediately veered off the trail to explore the area more deeply. Eventually, we couldn't find the trail again. In retrospect we had wandered pretty far off the trail and weren't anywhere near it. In the distance, on top of what looked like the largest dune hill, we saw what looked like an old telephone pole. We have since learned that this pole is called "The Mast", and does indeed mark the pinnacle of the Sandbanks dunes area. Inexorably drawn toward The Mast, we ventured through the dunes. Little by little, we lost members of our group of ten on the way. Eventually, by the time we reached The Mast, only three of us were left: Me, Sandy and Jason. I used my phone to take a panorama, and I managed to get Sandy twice, much to his amusement. On our way back we managed to find a rather large patch of poison ivy, which I had been keeping an eye out for because I had read about it online. Although it blocked our path back, I think we managed to successfully tiptoe through it without making contact. If you are adventurous, I highly recommend visiting and exploring this park. However, if you are going to go off-path on a hot day, bring some water! Technical Details: This panorama was taken with my Pixel 6.
