One of the highlights of our East Coast trip was a whale watching trip on the Jolly Breeze! It was a bit of a chilly day out on the Bay of Fundy, but it was sunny as we headed out to find some whales. We did see one whale in the distance as we were approaching the area where there had been reports of whale activity, but when we did get to the right area, it was incredibly foggy.

We heard the whale surface several times, but unless it was within a few dozen meters of the boat, it was impossible to see through the fog. We couldn't even see the other whale watching boats unlesss we got close.

Then, as luck would have it, the whale (which I believe is a Minke whale) surfaced right next to the boat, where I could quickly get my camera on it. I had to significantly enhance this photo to try to counteract the fog.

On the way back, Finna was able to steer the boat for a bit!

Technical Details: These photos were taken with my Pixel 6 (Finna and the boat), and my 5D Mark II + Tamron 150-600 at 600mm, ISO 400, f/8 for 1/4000th of a second.
