After Aiti's holiday visit to Elora, I offered to drive her back to Carleton Place to avoid having to figure out complex bus and train schedules. On the way there, we stopped in Peterborough to stretch our legs. Just off the highway is the Little Lake Cemetery, where some of our relatives are buried. The only grave we could find was for Lucius and Marianne Sherlock, who are my 3rd-great grandparents.

Lucius was born in Dublin, Ireland. Word in the family is that he fought in the American Civil War (on the Union side). This appears to be somewhat backed up by a record of a Lucius Sherlock from New York State. At any rate, he eventually settled in Peterborough. His occupation was listed as "bookkeeper" on his death certificate. I haven't been able to find much information about Marianne, except that her name seems to be spelled "Mary Ann" in all of the official records I can find except for this obelisk.

Technical Details: This photo was taken with my Pixel 6.
