This week we learned that Poppy has a congenital heart defect, and while she appears to be a normal healthy kitten right now, she will likely not survive into adulthood. Our vet had detected a heart murmur, so we booked an ultrasound appointment at the Ontario Veterinary College at U of G.

When I took Poppy in for her appointment on Tuesday I was greeted by a gaggle of fourth year students, all super excited because none of them had ever seen a Siberian Forest Cat before. Poppy was very well behaved for them as they examined her, and she didn't need to have any sedation for her ultrasound. Alas, at the end of the appointment all of the students were there looking somber as the cardiologist broke the bad news to me.

Hopefully Poppy beats the odds and is with us for a few years at least. She has already come a long way since we picked up the little furball in September.
