After my weekend away with the kids in Ottawa, Aiti and Aunt Alix came down to Elora to spend time with the kids so that Angela and I could have a weekend away to ourselves! For my birthday this year, Angela bought me tickets to Weird Al's Mandatory World Tour. Rather than just going out to a concert for the evening, we decided to book a B&B in Niagara-On-The-Lake for two nights and have a little weekend getaway.

We had great seats for the concert, and it was a lot of fun. I think the highlight of the concert for me was the entire band sitting down on the front of the stage for an acoustic set, and Al singing "Eat It" to the tune of "Layla".

The day after the concert, we decided to explore the Niagara Glen Nature Reserve. The pictures on their website make it look like a literal walk in the park, but the trail is actually really interesting, with a lot of large boulders and huge elevation changes as you descend into the gorge.

I brought along my macro lens just in case we came across any interesting little things along the trail. We didn't see too many little creatures, but I did notice this fly hanging out on a leaf along the trail, and managed to get a pretty good shot. I like the fact that the edge of the leaf was in the perfect spot to be in focus at the same time as the fly's head.

We enjoyed our little vacation away, and the kids had a great time at home with Aiti and Aunt Alix. I look forward to when Aila and Kai are old enough to go hiking... I would definitely take them back to the Niagara Glen to explore some more.
