As most of you will already know, the big news from Waterloo this week was the huge fire that destroyed the University Plaza. Of the businesses that were destroyed, Mel's Diner is the one that most people are in shock about. Although its food was terrible, service took forever, and there was always some controversy about the outfits the waitstaff had to wear, it was definitely a favourite place among students for breakfast, lunch, or having a late night snack after stumbling out of a local bar at 3am.

Personally, I'm in shock that Mr. Sushi has been destroyed. It was by far the best sushi place in Waterloo in terms of price, selection, and quality. The owners are super nice as well. I've been going there since it was just a counter in the back of the world food supermarket, when the cash register faced outward with the tray open and payments were on the honour system. The owner would get mad if he caught you trying to put in extra money for a tip, because his books wouldn't balance at the end of the day. We still always snuck in some extra money anyway.

Hopefully all the business owners will be able to get back up on their feet soon!
