Today I stumbled upon a contest put on by SunGarden, where you can win a $20,000 solar panel installation for your house! All you have to do is submit a photo of a "moment of beauty" on your property, and you are entered in a draw. Since the winner is chosen at random, your photo doesn't even have to be good! If you are thinking of installing solar panels already, you can also get a $250 discount coupon by entering the contest.

The contest is only open to people in the KW area, so my apologies to those reading this from afar. I submitted a photo of some ducks, but then I realized that I am way behind on my Picture Of The Week, so I decided to venture outside and try to take a new photo of something "beautiful" in my backyard.

I still don't have a proper macro lens, but the kit lens does a pretty good job, so I went searching for a nice image. I find that when I take a series of photos, the photo I like best will either be the first or the last in the series. When it is the first, I feel like I've wasted my time on the other shots. When it is the last, I feel like maybe I could have got a better shot if I had just tried a few more times. I can't win, obviously.

This was the first photo I took today. This appears to be a Western Bittercress, in front of some common blue violets.

Technical details: This photo was taken with my Rebel XT + kit lens at 55mm, ISO 100, f/5.6 for 1/500th of a second.
