It has been a while since I have posted a frog picture, and our little guys are growing up fast! Freddie has been getting quite large. I think he is even larger than Marabelle now, probably due to the fact that he is a voracious eater and a very fast hunter. He will often eat all the crickets we put in before Marabelle even spots one. We have resorted to hand feeding Marabelle a couple of times just so that Freddie doesn't eat her dinner every night.

Aside from that, both froggies are doing well, hopping around and occasionally croaking up a storm while we try to fall asleep at night.

They are still notoriously hard to photograph. They like to keep a low profile and hide behind things to keep out of sight. I would like to get a picture of them croaking one day, because their throats puff up like a balloon, but they only croak for about ten seconds every few days so catching them at the precise moment is almost impossible.

Anyway, this is Freddie, sitting on his favourite spot after a meal. He only let me take three photos before he turned around and faced away from the camera, but this one turned out well. You can see why these frogs are sometimes called "Smiling Frogs". They almost always look happy.

Technical details: This photo was taken with my Rebel XT with EF 50mm Mark II at ISO 100, f/4 for 13 seconds.

Wow, hard to believe he sat that still for 13 seconds!

Hahah, yes. Actually these frogs hardly move at all. The way they "hunt" for
food is they sit extremely still until something walks into their field of
vision, and then they leap straight at it. Once they have swallowed their
prey, the go back to their spot and sit extremely still again until the next
thing comes along.

Usually the only movement you can notice is their throat
going in and out ever so slightly as they breathe, but in this case Freddie
wasn't even breathing heavily, so there wasn't any motion blur at all.

Wow, he *is* looking quite plump! You guys are obviously taking good care of
your amphibian companions!
