Some of you may remember that two summers ago a groundhog took up residence in our back yard.

Well, he's back! Either that, or another groundhog has taken over. We didn't see any sign of him last year or any sign that anyone was living in his home, so perhaps this is a new visitor.

We will call him Henry.

Anyway, Henry is very skittish, and runs away very quickly at the first sign of trouble. He even ran away when I looked at him through the dining room window once.

For his photo, I exited through the front door and slowly crept along the side of the house keeping as low as possible. Luckily, he was facing away from me. Unluckily, this means that the first few photos I got were of his rear end.

This was the last photo I took, just as he spotted me, and about half a second before he bolted for his home.

I have set up a new covert "sniper" location in the downstairs bathroom where I hope to hide out and get a better photo soon. I just have to wait until he is brave enough to come out again.

Technical details: This photo was taken with my Rebel XT + EF 70-300IS at 300mm, ISO 800, f/8 for 1/30th of a second.
