We are not alone. That is, Angela and I are no longer alone on this property... a groundhog has moved in! Strangely enough, my Mum was the first to spot it during her brief visit last week. After that initial encounter, I went back to investigate and found that an extensive burrow system has been constructed since the last time I mowed the lawn.

So far it has eluded my attempts to photograph it, but I managed to catch it this morning on my way to work just after a thunderstorm. I'm still not sure what to do about it. I think I will try calling the Ministry of Natural Resources tomorrow and see what they recommend. In the meantime, maybe I can get it to pose for a better photo.

Technical info: This was taken with my Rebel XT + 70-300IS at 300mm, ISO 1600, f/5.6 for 1/50th of a second. Yes, it was fairly dark out at the time. I also had some trouble choosing a suitable white balance setting, but I eventually settled on a white point and it seemed to work out OK.
