This Christmas I found a very strange thing in my stocking. It was a "Sudokube". Picture a Rubik's Cube where each side is a Sudoku puzzle, and you have the basic idea. The only problem was that I never learned how to solve a traditional Rubik's Cube!
So, Angela went out and bought me a Rubik's Cube so that I could hone my skills before tackling the Sudokube. After reading an online tutorial on cube solving (the Lars Petrus method), and with a little help from some friends at work, I managed to solve the Sudokube after a couple of days.
During my studies, I practiced with the regular Cube to get familiar with the moves and operations, with the goal of being able to solve a random Cube in under five minutes. I was pretty happy when I got down to a 3 minute best. I think I started a bit of a craze at work though... I brought my Cube in this week and quickly found out that Kris can solve a cube in just over 2 minutes, and Chad's best time is 49 seconds!
Using some tips from Chad, I got down to a personal best of 2:05 minutes. I think I'm content with that for now. Today, Chad brought in his collection of Cubes, including a 2x2x2, 3x3x3, 4x4x4, and 5x5x5! He even brought in a Rubik's Snake for good measure.
So, I have finally been caught by Cube fever, 25 years late (the first world championships was in 1982).

I have a 1x1x1" cube on a neck chain from the days of the craze. My personal best was 4 sides solved. I gave myself a C. - I like the picture.-- Mum at 6:55pm, Thursday January 25, 2007 EST
