Our EVSE (Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment, or "car charger" for ease of communication) stopped working. After a couple of emails back and forth with the manufacturer, the most likely cause was a worn out breaker. The breaker (here shown in the off position) was brand new when I installed the EVSE just three years ago, so I was a little skeptical that it had gone "soft" so fast. However, that seemed to fit the behaviour I was seeing (the car would charge for a bit, and then the breaker would trip).

There was a major complication though: Due to a combination of the pandemic and the fact that my breaker panel is ancient, there is a worldwide shortage of Federal Pioneer Stab-Lok breakers. Canadian Tire and Home Depot were sold out everywhere in Ontario. Several websites were happy to take my order, only to email me later to say that "the item is backordered". Luckily my electrician friend Scott was able to find a used breaker at a retired electrician's house in Bracebridge for $100.

After installing the new (used) breaker, I was able to charge at full speed again!
