Part 4 - "Meeting Dad"

After I brought the baby to see Angela on the operating table, I was sent out to wait for her in the recovery room. Carol (and seemingly everyone else) had disappeared at that point, so I had a surreal moment walking out of the operating room into an empty hospital hallway with a strange newborn baby girl in my arms. It was just me and her walking out into a bright and strange new world.

Eventually I found my way back to our room, and waited for them to wheel Angela in from the OR. Carol did come by again briefly, but basically it was just me and Aila in an empty room, waiting. At this point Aila was sleeping, which is something she does quite well (I think she gets that from me).

The hat that Jen made for her fit perfectly, so that is what she was wearing the whole time we were at the hospital. It was quite a popular hat in the maternity ward. Often when I was pacing the hall trying to let Angela have some quiet nap time, people would come up to me and say: "What a beautiful hat!" It got to be a little strange after a while because they never commented on the beautiful baby under the hat. She also has matching booties that Jen made, that also fit perfectly. I think Jen must have been psychic... it's like she knew exactly what size Aila would be when she was born.

Here is a picture of Aila with her dad, taken the morning after she was born.

Stay tuned for Part 5!
