Every year, Doon Heritage Crossroads, a historical site in Kitchener, holds a Christmas celebration called "Starry Night". The village is set up like it would have been in the year 1914, and every house and shop is open for you to explore and find out what life was like back then.
This year Angela and I went with our friends Jen and Paul. We sung carols at the church, sampled all sorts of different treats at various houses, ate chestnuts roasted on an open fire, and went on a hayride around the village.
One of my favourite stops was at the blacksmith's shop. The blacksmith was using period equipment to build a steel nutcracker. Thanks to the modern age, I was able to get a picture of him working, even though it was extremely dark inside the shop.

Ooo, very cool! I love places like that. I'm a little jealous. Also, the picture is great! The blacksmith shops are one of my favorite places. :)-- Alix at 1:26pm, Sunday December 19, 2010 EST
