Angela brought a Lonely Planet guide to Canada on our trip, which turned out to be incredibly useful for planning things to do. One of the activities it recommended doing while in Vancouver was to rent a Kayak or Canoe and explore a local body of water called "Deep Cove". I knew that my friend Id was in Vancouver for his sister's wedding, so I called him up and invited him to come kayaking with us.

Unfortunately, the kayak place was booked solid by the time we got there (note to self: reserve kayak in advance next time). Luckily, the nice people at the kayak place said that there was a short hiking trail nearby that would lead to a good view of the cove. Finding the entrance to the hiking trails was surprisingly difficult, but once we found it we enjoyed a moderately challenging walk through the woods to get to the lookout point.

Update: I have posted the rest of my photos on my Picasa Web Album. Also check out Angela's Picasa Web Album.

Emotional details: We got to the top of the trail when the sun was low in the sky, so the cove had some nice side illumination happening. None of us brought water on the hike, so we were all very hot and thirsty, and couldn't wait to get back down to the convenience store to get some liquid. Nevertheless, the four of us hung out at the lookout long enough to get an appreciation for the cove. The tranquil solititude of the trail was a little disrupted by the sound of the live country music band coming from the harbour, but I guess that's the price you pay for civilization. I have a feeling we wouldn't have enjoyed kayaking all that much with all of the large motorboats zooming around anyway.

Technical details: This was shot with my Rebel XT + EF-S 10-22mm lens at 10mm, ISO 100, f/8 for 1/200th of a second.
