Our stay in Jasper National Park was very nice. On our first day there, we drove down the Icefields Parkway to the Icefield Centre, where we got a tour of the Athabasca Glacier, which is connected to the Columbia Icefield.

The weather was fantastic as usual, and it was very warm, even up on the glacier surrounded by ice. Angela and I both tried drinking the fresh glacier meltwater running down towards the valley below. It was very good.

From our tour bus we could see hiking groups making their way up the glacier. If I have more time in the future I might like to try that, although the bus was quite fun.

Update: I have posted the rest of my photos on my Picasa Web Album. Also check out Angela's Picasa Web Album.

Emotional details: Nothing says Canada like ice and snow... it was neat to be able to climb up on a thick ice sheet in the middle of summer. Once up there, I mostly just admired the scenery while I waited for the sun to come out from behind the clouds to give me a good photo opportunity. Once the sun came out, I took this photo of the top of the Athabasca Glacier on the right, and another smaller (but quite striking) glacier on the left.

Technical details: This was shot with my Rebel XT + EF-S 10-22mm lens at 10mm, ISO 100, f/11 for 1/400th of a second.

Very nice capture. The Columbia Icefields are among my favourite places to
visit in Canada.
