While I was in Ottawa last weekend I had just enough time to check out the ice sculptures in Confederation Park.
This was one of the most striking sculptures there. It is difficult to capture in a still photograph, especially because ice is transparent, but I tried anyway. It is a large (left) hand holding an egg containing the earth, and there is a female figure who appears to be trying to pry open the fingers of the hand.
The egg was really wonderful, and the globe inside was complete with all of the continents. It looks like the sculptors made egg/globe in two halves, hollowing out the globe from the inside, and then attached the two halves together to form the complete egg.
Technical details: This was shot with my Rebel XT + EF-S 10-22mm at 22mm, ISO 200, f/8 for 1/500th of a second.
Very nice picture! You captured a lot of detail. I'll let you know how my 35 mm shots worked out.-- Mum at 11:54am, Saturday March 3, 2007 EST
