For the long weekend this year Angela and I decided to stay in town. The goal was to save money since we are both broke from Hawaii. We decided to start a vegetable garden in my back yard. The top picture is what we started out with. As you can see I let things become slightly overgrown over the last two years. We went out and bought plants, seeds, flowers, some topsoil, and some miscellaneous gardening equipment. (So much for saving money.) The bottom picture is what we had at the end of the weekend. If things go well, we should have fresh food in a month or two.
looks beautiful man... too bad the rabbits and whatnots will eat all your profits! :-P maybe you should get some chicken wire and build a small fence..?-- aaron
Yes, I am a bit worried about that... I will just have to keep an eye out for now, and figure out something when it happens.-- Michael
Hey guys, It looks like you did a lot of work. The garden is beautiful, hope all your hard work pays off!!!!!!-- Frances
Well done! Glad to see you went with rocks rather than wood or even worse that plastic lawn edging to encircle your garden. What tasty treats have you planted? If you run into a problem with rabbits, try blood meal...-- Aravind
Well, the rocks were there before we started, they were just below the grass line. Some of them were quite buried. I will keep the blood meal thing in mind. I had never heard of that before today. We planted a variety of things, it will be an interesting experiment to see what survives. We have tomatoes, carrots, peas, snowpeas, cucumber, zucchini, and even raspberry bushes. I can't remember what else... Angela is in charge of the garden. I'm mostly in charge of weed and pest control.-- Michael
Great website, now that Christine has pulled it up for me! If the blood meal doesn't work try moth balls (animals don't like the smell). Sorry we missed you this time around Mike, hopefully you can come for a visit next time :0) Bye for now!-- Angela's Mom
