The highest mountain on the island of Maui is the dormant volcano Haleakala (ha-lay-AH-ka-la), at an altitude of 3.055 km. This is a view looking out from the summit of Haleakala towards the sunrise in the east. The top of the mountain consists of a large erosional crater. The hills you see in the picture are actually the other side of this crater, over 4 km away.

As an amateur astronomer, I'm very envious of those who live in Hawaii. Whenever you want to go stargazing, you can just drive for an hour and find yourself well above the clouds, with perfectly clear skies.

Location is a bit of a guess. It is around there somewhere.
