Digital image manipulation has come a long way in the last decade. Sophisticated restoration techniques are now available to the common user. This week I decided to see what I could do with an old photo of me taken in 1976. First, I made a digital copy of the photo by scanning it in using the default settings of my scanner. The leftmost image gives you a pretty good idea of what the photo looks like. Then I fiddled with the settings on my scanner and had it go to town on the image to try to compensate for dust, scratches, grain, and fading. The second time through, the scanner produced the center image. Then I took that image and tweaked it using some photo editing software. I tried my best to get a more natural colour to the image, and I went in with the clone tool and removed all of the hairs and artifacts present in the original photo. It didn't turn out too bad for about half an hour of effort.
Nice work! I remember that panda..but I don't remember it looking so new :P-- Alix
Great work. I remember the sheets, too. Can you remember who the panda was from?-- Rena
From the pillow case pattern, I can tell that the picture was taken in Ompah. Alix was packing stuffed toys tonight, and told me about this picture when she came across the panda.-- Mum at 1:24am, Wednesday May 23, 2007 EST
Ah, thanks! I have updated the location. ;)-- Michael at 9:58am, Wednesday May 23, 2007 EST
