I know it may seem like I'm obsessed with my new car, but I thought this was pretty cool. I went on my first major trip to Ottawa with the Prius this weekend. The weather was nice, and I was feeling relaxed, so I set the cruise control at 106 km/h and decided to see what kind of mileage I could get on the highway. The tank was full when I left Waterloo, and I reset the mileage computer once I was on the 85 heading out of town. As you can see in the main picture, I managed to average 4.2 L/100km for the first 216 kilometers! This works out to 56 miles/gallon, which is higher than the EPA estimates for the car! Overall, I managed to average 4.3 L/100km over the course of the whole trip there. The inset picture to the lower left is what my tripmeter and fuel gauge said when I pulled into Mum's driveway in Carleton Place. The fuel gauge isn't far off. At 4.3 L/100km, I would have used just over 20 L of gas out of my 45 L tank. Pretty sweet.
