Blue Skies was a lot of fun this year! It rained on us quite a bit, especially during Sunday's concert, but we managed to avoid getting completely soaked.

I managed to have a unique Blue Skies experience this year. On Saturday I attended a workship put on by The Bombadils, where we were encouraged to bring our own instruments. I'm always looking for an opportunity to play my clarinet at Blue Skies, so I took it to the workshop. During the workshop, we learned a new song (a folk song from Norway), arranged it based on the instruments that showed up to the workshop, and created a new opening and closing to the song. By the end of the one hour workshop, we were able to play the entire song through from start to finish.

That was pretty fun just as far as workshops go. However, the next day I ran into Sarah from The Bombadils in the field, and she told me that they were going to perform the song at the concert that night and invite all the people from the workshop on stage to play it with them! After my initial panic of realizing that I had completely forgotten everything I learned in the workshop, I spend some time probing my memory and by the end of the day I had remembered how to play the song and what all the cues were.

That night, I got up on stage with The Bombadils and other people from the workshop and we played the song. Best of all, it sounded great from where I was standing on stage!

The kids also had a great time at Blue Skies this year. Both of them really enjoyed the music, and Aila really enjoyed hanging out with her Aunt Susan. This is a photo I took during the Saturday night concert.

Technical Details: This photo was taken with my 5D Mark II + Tamron 28-75 at 54mm, ISO 3200, f/4 for 1 second (with no tripod, which is partly why it is so blurry).
