I mentioned briefly in another POTW that Angela is teaching a course at UW this semester. This means that I'm home with Kai every Thursday for 12 weeks. On this particular Thursday we went out for a walk, and I decided to explore a bit of the hiking trail that runs near our house.
Usually I walk towards town, but this time I walked away from it, and followed South River Road down to where the trail crosses the river. Kai and I found a beautiful pedestrian bridge over the river. Much to my surprise, the bridge led almost directly to the Wellington County Museum and Archives.
So, it is possible to walk to the museum from our house in under half an hour, which is pretty neat! While we were on the bridge, I took a few photos with my cell phone. This is a panorama that I stitched together from two of the photos I took. It is a view of the Grand River looking back towards our house. In the top right corner you can see the museum up on the hill.
Technical Details: This photo is a combination of two photos taken with my Moto G phone. The photos were stitched together using Hugin and then an HDR merge was done using Photoshop CS6.
Nice shot! What program do you use to meld the two pictures?-- Dad at 6:19am, Tuesday November 18, 2014 EST
I stitched the two photos together using Hugin. It did a really good job of aligning them, but it didn't do a great job of dealing with the high dynamic range in the image (the shadows on the river are extremely dark, and the museum is in full sunlight and extremely bright). So, I had Hugin output a high dynamic range 16-bit TIFF file, which I imported into Photoshop. Then I used Photoshop's "Merge to HDR" function so that I could completely customize the profile curves in order to get an image that was more true to my vision of the scene.-- Michael at 6:27am, Tuesday November 18, 2014 EST
Thanks, I am not familiar with Hugin so I will look it up.-- Dad at 1:34pm, Wednesday November 19, 2014 EST
