Our friends Craig and Ari bought a property up north on Compass Lake, right beside Craig's parents' cottage. To celebrate, they invited a bunch of us up to go camping there.

We decided that it would be a good "dry run" for us to experience camping with Kai before going to Blue Skies, so we packed all our stuff in and headed up just past Huntsville. We had not seen the property before so we didn't know what to expect. It was simultaneously a lot more rough than we imagined, and a lot easier than we imagined it was going to be.

The rough part: The road to the property is impassable without a 4x4 vehicle, so we had to park the Prius almost 2 kilometers from the property, then get a lift in to a spot on the road about 1 km from the property, where we then loaded all of our stuff onto a barge and motored across the lake to get to Craig's property.

The easy past: Even though Craig doesn't have a cottage (he warned us that there was just a run-down shack that wouldn't be useful for anything), his parents have a beautiful cottage on the property right beside his where we ended up spending most of our time.

All things considered, we had a great time. Kai's camping trip was a little rough on him... we couldn't prevent him from being bitten by multiple mosquitos, and those bites really bothered him all weekend. Aila had a great time and we got to have our first canoe ride together! She loved being in the boat, so hopefully we will have more opportunies to go canoeing soon.
