We have three Black Walnut trees in our front yard, and this year we got a huge crop of walnuts. I have been out several times to fill the wheelbarrow with walnuts, only to find that they fall almost as fast as I can pick them up.

Even though I find them a little annoying, the squirrels are very happy this year. Here is a photo I took today of a squirrel raiding my walnut heap.

Maybe one year I will try to collect and prepare some walnuts for eating. It will have to be when I have a lot of free time, because husking them is not easy, and apparently the process of drying and curing takes several weeks.

Technical Details: This photo was taken with my 5D Mark II + EF 70-300 IS at 300mm, ISO 3200, f/5.6 for 1/80th of a second.
