We had a huge storm in Elora last week. The winds were so strong that they blew out the window screen in our ensuite bathroom. We also lost power for 9 hours. After the storm was over, three trees were down. Luckily, they somehow managed to fall in such a way that nothing was seriously damaged. One of the trees did bounce off the staircase on our deck, causing some minor damage (nails popped out, etc), but it should be pretty easy to fix.

As a result of the storm, this weekend I bought a chainsaw and got to practice my lumberjack skills, turning the fallen trees into firewood. I disregarded my coworkers' advice and bought an electric chainsaw, and it worked out pretty well! My neighbours were impressed at how quickly I was able to limb and buck the trees, and by the end of the day on Sunday I had a huge stack of logs. The next step is to bring them down to the firepit and split them into firewood with a new axe that Angela bought for me.

Hopefully we don't have a storm like that again, but at least now I am prepared to deal with fallen trees in the future.

Yikes! I'm glad there was no serious damage. I'm remembering the tree guy who
came by while we were there and said that he was confident that all the trees
were fine and that he knew them all really well having lived and worked in the
area for many years. So much for experienced tree guys!
