This week I finally "completed" my lens collection by purchasing a Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM telephoto lens. My lens collection isn't really complete, but it is now good enough that I don't have to worry about buying any more lenses in the near future. I have most of my bases covered, from ultra wide angle to walkaround to portrait to telephoto.

To demonstrate this, I wanted to take a picture of something that would make an interesting subject at all focal lengths. Unfortunately, it was quite cold this weekend, so I also wanted to find a location where I could take a bunch of pictures from the comfort of my car. After some driving, I eventually wound up in the parking lot at the Conestoga Country Club. I've played golf here a few times. It is quite nice, and quite challenging.

Anyway, I should explain the photo. This photo is a composite of eight photographs taken with my lenses at various focal lengths. I have five lenses, three of which are zooms. With the zoom lenses, I took one picture fully zoomed out, and one fully zoomed in. I have also put together Mike's Photography Equipment, which is a little web page that will give you a better idea of what this photo is all about.

The photos were all taken handheld, which is why some of them don't match up perfectly. It was also very windy out, I was shooting into the sun, and the partially cloudy skies meant the light kept changing. I'm quite amazed that the photos matched up as well as they did!

Oh, and Canon's new 3-stop image stabilization system is pretty cool. Without IS, I would not have been able to get a sharp picture at 300mm on a 1.6 crop camera with a shutter speed of 1/200 seconds, especially considering the windy conditions I was shooting in. Once I turned the IS on, I was much more confident that I would be able to get the shot.

All photos in this composite were taken with my Rebel XT at ISO 100, f/8 for 1/200 seconds. Lenses used: Peleng 8mm Fisheye, Canon EF-S 10-22mm USM, Canon EF-S 18-55mm, Canon EF 50mm 1.8 Mark II, Canon EF 70-300mm IS USM.

i like your other page with the different clickable images. looks good! that
fish-eye lens is very fish-eye-ey. i wasn't sure of the difference between it
(x8) and your new x10 lens... now i see... the x10 is not fish-eye at all...
just ultra wide. i wonder how the shape of the two lenses vary..?
