I'm back! My trip to Hawaii was amazing! Over the next few days I will catch up on my Picture Of The Week by posting a couple my pictures from Hawaii. I took over 700 pictures, so I should be able to find a few good ones! One of the biggest adventures that I had was hiking out over 5 km of "fresh" lava flows on Kilauea to view the latest stream of molten rock descending from the hills and flowing into the ocean. Mere words and pictures can not possibly describe the experience, so I will not even try. It was incredible.

After the gruelling afternoon hike, just after the sun went down, I took this picture of fresh pahoehoe lava oozing out from under hot rocks. I melted the rubber feet on my tripod taking this picture, but luckily my boots survived. I used a 5 second exposure time so that you can visualize the flow. I also digitally pushed the photo 2 f-stops to bring out the surrounding rock. To give you a sense of scale, the main river in the centre of the photo was about two feet wide.

Rough guess... not that it matters much since the landscape is constantly changing!

Wow, that's awesome. I'm glad you had a good time! I look forward to seeing
more pictures. :)

Thanks for the postcard! The picture of lava flowing into the sea was amazing,
but I think you've really managed to depict the flow even more so in this
picture.
